The Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education welcomed Dr. Veronica Shaw to Carl Sandburg High School as its new Associate Principal of Instruction. She begins July 1 and replaces Anita Huffman who was recently appointed as District 230’s Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.

With ample education leadership experience, she is currently the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Lincoln-Way District 210. Prior to that, Dr. Shaw served as Associate Principal of Student Services for three years and an additional ten years as a Spanish teacher and Dean, also at District 210.

From assisting in the implementation of Lincoln-Way’s Seal of Biliteracy Program, to overseeing student discipline and attendance of 2,000 students, to coordinating a new teacher induction program and teaching in the University of St. Francis’ English as a Second Language teacher endorsement program, Dr. Shaw has a myriad of experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Nolting said, “Dr. Shaw will add tremendous value to Sandburg High School and the district. Her vast experiences will lend a fresh perspective and her record of hard work and positive impact will further the high standards already in place.”

Dr. Shaw also serves as a Vice President of Lockport Township High School District 205’s School Board. Since 2018, as a volunteer board member, she has helped execute a nationwide search, negotiate, and hire a superintendent. She also serves on the Curriculum Committee for District 205.

Dr. Shaw said, “I am impressed with the institution's continuous work towards student achievement, career and college readiness, and academic supports. Furthermore, during times where it was difficult to maintain achievement, Sandburg has succeeded in maintaining high standards for all students and putting additional supports in place where appropriate.”

She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in Teaching of Spanish, also from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
