• What is CTE?

    Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs prepare our students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers. Carl Sandburg High School's CTE program is composed of courses from three (3) departments including Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS), Technology & Engineering Education, and Business Education. Each of these departments provides courses that are connected to various career pathways which you can learn more about in each department's page found on the sidebar. Many of our programs of study lead to work-based learning (WBL) experiences, industry certifications, and/or dual credit opportunities. Further down on this page you will find a short student-created video sharing information about the three (3) departments as well as each department's own highlight video.

    What are Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit?

    Some of our CTE courses provide dual credit if the student earns a C or better in a dual credit approved class. Dual credit courses are taught at a D230 school and by D230 staff who have been approved by the post-secondary institution providing the credit. The credit is transferable in most cases but you will need to work with your post-secondary's admission office to verify if and how the credit will transfer to their institution. Most of our dual credit opportunities are with Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) but are also not limited to MVCC.

    Dual Enrollment courses are courses that are taught by MVCC or another institution's staff and take place at their campus. This could be due to facility needs or instructor qualifications. The credit earned is post-secondary credit but can be requested to be added to your high school transcript if desired.
