D230 artists win big at Moraine Valley Art Show
Consolidated High School District 230 student artists from Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools recently competed and earned recognition in the Moraine Valley Community College High School Art Exhibition. Held at the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery, the exhibit celebrated its 40th anniversary of the annual high school showcase of talented students from eight local high schools, including Victor J. Andrew, Argo Community, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Chicago Christian, Carl Sandburg, Evergreen Park Community, Oak Lawn Community and Reavis.
Each year, the judges evaluate each piece and choose the Best of Show, three Judges Awards, the Moraine Valley Award, as well as the top three pieces and seven honorable mentions for each school. Additional college awards are given from the American Academy of Art and the College for Creative Studies.
Senior at Stagg High School Marta Kepka won the Moraine Valley Art Award and received a scholarship for 12 credits at Moraine Valley Community College. Only one student from the entire show received this award.
