Victor J. Andrew Assistant Principal of Activities Tim Dalton was recently named the 2024 South Cook Assistant Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA). He was presented with the award at the June Board of Education meeting by a member of the IPA Awards Committee Dr. Sharon Walker-Hood.

Dalton joined the Andrew High School Administrative Team in the 2002-2003 school year as the associate principal. At the start of the 2004-2005 school year, he became the division chair for Business and Mathematics and held that role until the 2020-21 school year, when he became the assistant principal of Activities. Prior to his time at Andrew, He was the dean of students at Lemont High School, where he was involved with co-curriculars by coaching or sponsoring the community service club, cross country, and football. Dalton taught mathematics at Evergreen Park High School and was also the girls' bowling coach. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and Governors' State University. Dalton believes it is the responsibility of a modern high school to provide opportunities for all students so they are adequately prepared to pursue their post-secondary goals.  

Principal Dr. Abir Othman says, “Tim embodies the definition of student-centered. He builds strong relationships with students that reinforce the family-like culture at Andrew. He always supports school and districtwide initiatives, providing more opportunities for students to engage and succeed.”

"Tim has dedicated more than 20 years to District 230 as a department head and assistant principal. The lifeblood of Andrew High School, he always encourages students to get involved and is passionate about education. This award is long overdue," said Superintendent Dr. Robert Nolting.

The Awards Selection Committee is composed of IPA past presidents, the State Diversity & Equity chair, and a representative from Horace Mann.
